Being an Intern


Our interns have the opportunity to live on site in Wellington SA and be involved in both formal study (approximately 1 day per week) and various roles at the campsite such as:

⋅ Activity assisting & instructing
⋅ Involvement in holiday camp leadership
⋅ Running children’s programs for local kids
⋅ Assisting in grounds maintenance tasks
⋅ Camp hosting
⋅ Assisting in the kitchen
⋅ Animal Handling
⋅ Basic administration

The aims of our intern program are to help our interns to:

⋅ Grow in and take a personal ownership of their faith
⋅ Develop in their leadership skills and abilities
⋅ Challenge and stretch them to step outside of their comfort zones to help them develop in skills and confidence
⋅ Grow in independence through living away from home
⋅ Learn to be a productive member in a workplace
⋅ Be part of a team
⋅ Develop new skills and qualifications
⋅ Develop people skills through living and working with others

An internship with CYC is a great opportunity to put your faith into action and serve God in a practical setting!

The internship is considered a full-time position. Depending on family circumstances, they may also be eligible for a youth allowance or living away from home allowance.

All interns will be linked with or assisted to find a mentor, who they will meet with regularly to reflect with and be encouraged in both their personal and spiritual growth.

Course Information


The program runs for 1 year with a possible 2nd year. 1st year interns will gain a Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation as well as beginning a Certificate IV in Christian Ministry and Theology. 2nd Year interns will complete a Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation as well as completing the Certificate IV in Christian Ministry and Theology.

Both Certificates III (SIS30413)* & IV in Outdoor Recreation (SIS40310)** as well as the Certificate IV In Christian Ministry and Theology (10433NAT)*** are run in partnership with private RTO’s. They are nationally accredited courses and have been developed to be of a very practical nature for the camping industry.

The courses include training in:

⋅ Bushwalking
⋅ Archery
⋅ Canoeing
⋅ Artificial Rock Climbing
⋅ Adventure Based Learning
⋅ Facilitating Groups
⋅ Introduction to Christian Life
⋅ Evangelism
⋅ First Aid
⋅ Pool Lifeguard

Each years intake will commence employment in January. When available, applications will be up on our Jobs page.
